Even if the coyote is often presented in many stories as a trickster and a spirit animal bringing complication to whoever crosses his path, it is a good reminder to keep things simple and open up to possibilities. Coyote Del Rey is more than just a healer; he is a guardian of ancient knowledge, a storyteller, and a bridge between worlds. Indigenous Pueblos of the ancient Borderland found healing in their community's Medicine Man...a respected member of the Pueblo who used traditional knowledge to help members of the community heal.  

Upon the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadors, the Pueblo sought to absorb the spiritual beliefs of the Conquistadors into their own to improve their lifestyle.  The Conquistadors, however, set out on a path to eradicate Indigenous beliefs, murdering and imprisoning many of the regions most prominent Medicine Men.  

Due to their actions, the Spanish were vanquished from the Pueblo Holy Land for a period of 13 years.  When they returned the agreements made with the Pueblo included Religious Freedom for Pueblo Medicine Men to practice in their community.  With this freedom, many of the Pueblo Medicine Men included the teachings of Jesus Christ into their healing practice.  This was the birth of Curanderismo in the Borderland. A holistic traditional healing system blending Indigenous and Spanish spiritual practices, focusing on restoring balance to mind, body, and spirit using herbs, rituals, prayer, body work, and energy work.

With lessons learned from the Pueblo Revolt, Spanish royalty in need of healing sought the expertise of a local curandero, recognizing that true healing transcended royal privilege. Not just any Curandero would suffice for the royal bloodline; it had to be the craftiest soul in the Borderland, the one who carried wisdom as ancient as the land itself. Thus, they bestowed upon this individual the honored title of 

Curandero Del Rey...

This coveted title has always been held by Coyote.
